Fall Beauty Report

Fall is typically the season to treat your makeup application as an artist would a canvas and the Fall 2015 runway shows provide plenty of inspiration for our inner painters. Runway makeup artists encourage defining and shaping the eye with liner, adding pops of jewel-toned colors on the mouth and washes of autumnal pastels on cheeks.

Eyes: Out of Line

Rodarte Crystal Eyes

Eye liner, the perennial go-to, is used in a variety of applications from consumer-friendly to “for the pros only”. In some cases, (Rodarte), liner wasn’t even used at all and employed strips of minuscule Swarovski crystals as an eye-definer. But not all liner ideas were so esoteric and most fell into two categories: graphic (Galliano, Oscar de la Renta, Mugler, Chanel) or smokey (Diane Von Furstenburg, Tom Ford). A few, not content with those choices, used it for both (Elie Saab, Cushnie et Ochs).

LIPS: Red Hot

Celine- bright orange red lips

For lips, the most bandied about idea was “90’s” due to matte texture and shade depth and intensity. But the common denominator for almost all is the color red. We saw vibrant berry (Carolina Herrera), bright orange red (Celine), true red (Dolce and Gabbana) and brick red (Phillip Lim). Then there were departures into the deep with blackened plum (Marchesa),

blackened wine (Ungaro) and blue black (Giles).

Cheeks: Blush Rush

Flushed cheeks also had a presence on the runway but not, as one would expect, in dark hues but, instead, as warm pastels that provided a welcome sense of balance to the intensity of dramatic eyes and lips.
