2022’s Top Creatives to Watch Now: Lina Mourey

What would you title this chapter in your life?
Stepping into My Power.

What inspires you and your career?
My insatiable appetite to grow and perfect my craft. Anything from another artist’s work to a specific product can inspire me.

How did you develop the social media platform you have as an influencer today?
I’ve always been authentic and transparent in my beliefs all while being passionate about makeup and creating in general. I think that if you really are showing up as yourself you attract your true audience and community.

What’s the biggest challenge you come across as an influencer?
Without a doubt, comparison. It’s very easy to get caught up in what people within your industry are doing and, if you’re not consistent in every aspect, you often feel left behind.

In what ways do you wish to inspire people through your platform?

When you’re creative and you’re creating a career out of thin air, it’s probably one of the craziest things you can do. Many people doubt us, which trickles into your own self belief. I want to show others that it doesn’t matter where you currently are, where you’ve come from, or how far from your goal you feel, you are limitless. We can do anything once we align our efforts with our mind.

What’s at the top of your bucket list for 2022?
I want to reach a threshold of my career and personal life that I haven’t before. 2020 changed us all and made me realize the importance of never giving up.

What’s a trend that never goes out of style in your life?
Probably skin care. Taking care of your skin will always be a trend I am into. Not only am I obsessed with prepping my clients with the right skincare, but nights with my gua sha stone and red/blue light therapy mask are the highlight of my self care routine.

Three beauty products you cannot live without?
Jan Marini sunscreen, Dior Forever concealer, Makeup Forever artist color pencils.

What’s a typical work day like for you?
I don’t think you can use the word typical in my industry, lol. But if it’s a set day, I leave about an hour early before I have to be there. I like to take the time while driving to pray and have a deep conversation with God. If I still have time I put an audio book or podcast on, this really helps set the tone for my day. Since every client is different, I usually have about an hour or two for makeup and, after I’m finished, I stay on set for touch ups or makeup changes. Set days can be anywhere from 8-14 hours, and I love how every day is so different.

What advice do you have for someone who aspires to have a career like your own?

This saying is 100% what I identify with: “Work ethic will always outweigh talent.” Put in your 10,000 hours, collaborate, network, be kind to everyone, grow as much as you can by studying techniques and trying new products, do your best not to compare, and always stay true to yourself.

Are you working on any exciting projects you can share?
Yes, I am so excited that in the next coming months I’ll be launching a new masterclass course.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?
If I wasn’t a makeup artist, I would be a chef.

Biggest highlight in your career?
I’m so grateful to have had many, but being flown out to Italy for a bride with my sister & cousin, whom I’ve been lucky enough to be able to work alongside on occasion, was very surreal. That experience made me realize that anything is truly possible; it diminished my limiting beliefs. After that, I was blessed enough to do a wedding in Qatar and I was treated like royalty. It was a full circle moment.

Last song you played?

“To be Loved” by Adele

What would you like to say to your fans?
People who support me and are so kind towards me, light my soul on fire. They have, more times than not, comforted me in moments they probably don’t realize and I truly needed the most. I’m so appreciative to the community that has found me.
