Hello gorgeous, Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is Maggie Rawlins and I am from South Carolina. I am married to my best friend and a proud dog mom of two.
How would you define yourself in three words?
Determined, stubborn, caring.
In what ways have you been incorporating self – care into your daily routine?
Showing myself grace. I try to listen to my body and respond appropriately.
What’s the most fulfilling part of your job?
Relationships! I love meeting new people and have found some sincere friendships along the way that are very important to me.
What would you title this current chapter in your life?
Nightmare of 2020. kidding but what a crazy year it’s been.
How do you educate yourself on ways of maintaining healthy skin?
My sister! She is an esthetician so I just listen to whatever she tells me to do
What do you love most about Pixi Beauty?
I love that pixi focuses on bringing out everyone’s natural beauty
What are your top 3 favorite Pixi Beauty products?
The rose oil blend, large lash mascara and tinted brilliance balm.
What does the word empowerment mean to you?
I think empowerment comes from community and support, it’s all of us standing together to lift each other up when we need help and to not be held back by society or inequality as women, minorities, or whatever that may be. I think it’s the right to know we can stand for something, we can be successful and can make a difference.
Modeliste: How do you remain fit, active, and healthy with stay-at-home orders intact?
I don’t really adhere to a strict routine right now. If I feel like my body needs to rest, I dont force a workout. I try to just take it day by day.
Modeliste: As a creative in quarantine, how have you found inspiration and ways to create?
I try to get outdoors as much as possible. Whether it’s on the beach or boat in Charleston or for a quick walk for fresh air in NYC
Modeliste: How can you as an individual actively take part in fighting a system of oppression and standing in solidarity with your peers of color to amplify their voices? (Example: Protesting, only supporting black owned businesses, not supporting companies known to uphold racist standards, educating yourself, standing up against racism when you see it in person, etc.)
The examples that you listed are all ways that I have personally adjusted my life, in some way or another, to stand in solidarity. It is inexcusable for oppression to still be a part of our world today. Every opportunity I can take to stand up for what is right, I want to continue to do so and try to be an active voice in my day to day life as well as from my social platforms.
Modeliste: How have you found ways to educate yourself and those around you?
By trying to listen and challenging myself to grow. Empathy is extremely important during these times. It’s difficult to truly grasp what some minorities and POC deal with on a day to day basis but it is our responsibility every day to try and put ourselves in their shoes and use our privilege to understand so that we may know the ways we can make a difference and use our voices to fight for them. It’s my responsibility to educate myself.
Modeliste: What do you think are ways that others can help society and our surrounding communities?
Get involved in your community, stand up for what is right, have difficult conversations with peers, coworkers, family members. Take it upon yourselves to educate yourself and others.
Modeliste: In what ways has your life changed due to current events?
I am at home so much more now. I am cooking rather than eating out. Spending more time with my husband and our dogs. Packing my suitcase a lot less. Gardening, studying and enjoying sleeping in my own bed.
Modeliste: What advice do you have for someone who aspires to create a career like your own?
Don’t take no for an answer. Keep pushing. Don’t let the industry define who you are or what you can/cannot do.
