Model Diaries: Pia Mia

Modeliste: Tell us how you began your music career.

Pia: I always had a voice inside of me, it was just a matter of if and when it would come out of such a shy girl. I was a little girl who knew music was meant for me so I sang anywhere and everywhere I could. Followed the signs, moved to Los Angeles from Guam, and things organically fell together.

Modeliste: What inspires you most when writing your songs?

Pia: Being an island girl who moved to Hollywood, I’ve had a lot of interesting and diverse life experiences. I think this background inspires a lot of my song-writing. My journal writings inspired a lot of my songs too. Sometimes it happens organically when I’m in the studio, or when I meet or work with talented, unique people. I have strong feelings, and I think that’s a creative fuel.

Modeliste: If you could have a duet with anyone, who would it be?

Pia: I’ve collaborated with a lot of artists who are on that wish list, and there are many more to come.

Modeliste: Favorite song lyrics?

Pia: All of the lyrics of “There’s Always Me” by Elvis Presley, you have to look it up.

Modeliste: What song would you probably be caught dancing alone to?

Pia: I Think I Luv Her by Tyla Yaweh and YG

Modeliste: What do you love most about being a singer?

Pia: I love being able to grow my platform and have a voice to stand up for people and causes that might not be able to the way I can. I want to help make our world a better place, whether that’s making a song that people connect to and can put them in a good mood, or raising money for people in need, or speaking up for those that need a voice. I want to be here to bring light and happiness and hopefully make a change for the better in any way I can no matter how big or small.

Modeliste: What would you say your personal philosophy is in regards to social media?

Pia: Social media obviously has its pros and cons, so take it with a grain of salt and use it in moderation. Don’t let it consume your life. Have fun with it! Be creative, uplift others, discover new talents, businesses, restaurants, find things that inspire you. Anything negative you come across on there, let it slide off your back. There are too many special and great things in life to focus on than someone’s rude comment.

Modeliste: How would you describe yourself in 3 adjectives?

Pia: LOVING. MUSICAL CURIOUS.

Modeliste: Most used emoji?

Pia: The black heart because it’s the best heart.

Modeliste: Favorite book that you enjoyed recently?

Pia: I’m reading probably 7 books right now…many different genres, but the one I’m really into is my Elvis biography from 1981.

Modeliste: What’s the wildest thing you’ve ever done in your life?

Pia: Probably swimming in open water with 12 foot sharks for fun.

Modeliste: What are the top 3 things on your bucket list?

Pia: I want to go to Paris, learn a new language, and say yes to everything for a day.

Modeliste: Fashion icon?

Pia: Princess Diana.

Modeliste: Current binge watch.

Pia: The Politician.

Modeliste: If you could make a documentary, what would it be about?

Pia: What it’s really like coming from a small island and trying to make it in the music industry. There’s so much that goes on behind closed doors that people would never know. If people knew my story and all the things that I’ve been thru in Hollywood, they wouldn’t believe it.

Modeliste: 3 ultimate beauty must-haves

Pia: Tarte Shape Tape (undeniable, irreplaceable concealer), killer skincare routine, eyelashes always.

Modeliste: Favorite fashion trend you’re wearing this season?

Pia: Anything and everything Chanel and Dior.

Modeliste: Was there ever a moment when you really felt like you made it?

Pia: I don’t know. My priority is feeling good in life more than feeling like I made it. Life is a journey and I’m already so blessed to be on the road I’m on, being able to make music. I have so many goals, my list is never ending. There is always work to do. As long as I’m happy and surrounded by my family and a strong team and always working hard, I’m good.

Modeliste: Upcoming projects you can tell us about?

Pia: I’m always working on music. I recently dropped a couple songs, “Feel Up” with YG and “Don’t Get Me Started” with Gunna and Carnage. There’s more coming soon and I can’t wait to get on the road, touring is one of my favorite things to do.

Modeliste: What was your favorite part of your Cover photoshoot?

Pia: I loved working with everyone on this set. It’s so nice having people around that keep the mood light and make working fun. The pictures came out great and I’m very happy that everyone’s work looked amazing. It was such a fun set with the train tracks and actual trains passing by…trains are so mysterious, I love them.

Pia: Modeliste is about fashion, beauty and travel and that is a huge part of my life as well.

Modeliste: What would you like to say to your fans?

Pia: Everything I do, I do it for you. I love you, thank you for being on this journey with me through all the ups and downs no matter what.
