What inspired you to pursue your career as a creator?
Growing up, I was always a creative kid who loved to express my creativity through makeup. Watching makeup tutorials on YouTube was always my guilty pleasure, and two of my favorite creators, Pony and Risabae, inspired me to learn more about makeup. It was always amazing to see people with insane talent who had the ability to use the power of makeup to create different looks.
What’s the first thing you do each morning?
When I wake up in the morning, I always have a glass of water to start my day. Then, of course, I check my phone for work emails, and as a content creator, I obviously check my social media to see how all my videos are doing.
Who has been the most influential person in your life?
My parents are the most influential people in my life. At a young age, they gave up everything they had in their home country to move to Canada and give a brighter future to me and my sister. They are two of the hardest-working people I know, and because of them, I was able to come this far in my career. I am forever thankful to them.
What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about you?
Before becoming a content creator, I was an optometrist with a Life Sciences major. I studied for eight years and started working in the medical field.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I want to try living in Japan. Every time I visit Japan, I always have the best time. Since I love the culture, language, and food there, it’s a dream for me to experience that every day.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day?
After a long day, I love to take a hot shower and do a full skincare routine, ending with an overnight sleeping mask in bed.
What is a book, movie, or piece of art that has profoundly impacted you?
Harry Potter left a big impact on my life ever since childhood. The author’s creativity in creating a completely new world that people couldn’t even imagine was truly shocking to me, and it gave me the courage to become a more experimental and artistic person.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
When I didn’t get into the school I wanted, my dad told me that although this might be the hardest time right now, I will learn to overcome it, and this hardest moment will only be a small memory. People become devastated and want to give up after an unfortunate incident, but we need to learn that if you keep trying hard, you will accomplish things in a different way, and life will move on.
What’s your go-to outfit or style that makes you feel confident?
I love a crop top with baggy jeans. I feel comfortable, confident, and stylish.
What is a project or achievement you’re most proud of?
I did a spring beauty campaign with Holt Renfrew last year. I was the face of this beauty campaign, and the project was displayed on billboards and around malls all over Canada. I am so proud of myself for getting this great opportunity because it was a realization point for me that my hard work had finally been recognized.
If you could relive any moment in your life, what would it be?
I love my present life, so I do not want to relive any moment. Every day is a new, exciting day for me, and I will work hard to live it so I don’t regret it.
What’s your favorite meal or cuisine?
I love Korean food. Because I am Korean, I always ate Korean food growing up, and as I got older, I grew to love it more and more.
How do you approach goal setting?
I usually set a mental goal and pick someone I want to use as a role model. Then, I plan different strategies that will help me reach this goal. Once I check off all the checklists compared to the role model, I find another person with an even bigger influence as a new goal target.
What is one thing you hope to accomplish in the next year?
I want to start my own makeup brand. This has been my dream for many years, so I want to dedicate the whole year to designing products that everyone will love.
How do you define success?
The definition of success can vary depending on each individual. My definition of success is when you are financially stress-free and able to provide financial stability for yourself and your loved ones.
Describe your morning beauty ritual.
I wash my face with lukewarm water and don’t use a cleanser. Overusing cleanser can actually be damaging to your skin, so I always skip it in the morning. After, I follow a simple four-step skincare routine: toner pad, vitamin C serum, collagen ampoule, and hydrating cream. I finish off with sunscreen.
What’s your go-to makeup trend at the moment?
My current go-to makeup is K-pop makeup. I love wearing colored contact lenses and emphasizing aegyosal (the undereye fat), which are key points of Korean makeup.
What is your favorite Pixi beauty product?
I recently used the On-the-Glow Superglow Highlighter Stick last fall, and I immediately fell in love with this product. It’s creamy and blends right onto your skin, giving you the most flawless glow.
What was your favorite part of Modeliste’s Singapore getaway and the Clan Hotel?
The people who joined the trip were my favorite part. Everyone was so welcoming and kind, which made my trip even more enjoyable.
