Smoke Screen: Secrets to the Sexiest Smokey Eye

The smokey eye has been around since the 1920’s.   Back then television was black and white and actresses needed to apply a heavy amount of eye shadow and lipstick to be seen on screen.  Since then, the smokey eye has evolved into so much more than just stage makeup.  Once applied it defines us as sultry, mysterious, sexy and confident.
The new age of the smokey eye or the term I like to use “Effortless,” is a look that I absolutely love.  The key is to not make it difficult.  Skip the crease, the five eye shadows, and the cateye you all thought was necessary in order to achieve this look.  Remember, the look you are achieving is lived in and effortless!
As the Executive Director of Artistry for Jouer Cosmetics I have the absolute honor in collaborating with the founder and Creative Director Christina Zilber.  We have worked together creating all the looks for the campaigns, photo shoots and The Home Shopping Network HSN.

Here I will give you some tips on how to create a signature look I absolutely love on anyone. The effortless Smokey Eye.
Apply Jouer Crème Eyeshadow Crayon in Renaissance directly onto the lid start at the base of the lash and coloring lightly back and for upward right beneath the crease. Also make sure to apply under the bottom lashline as well.

Using a small/medium synthetic concealer brush (try Jouer’s Crème Brush #4) blend Renaissance Crayon and smooth out any harsh ends/corners. Remember to blend. It should finish off looking like a watercolor of shadow.

With Jouer’s Eyeshadow Brush #3 dab Chocolat Eyeshadow Powder directly on top of the Crème Eyeshadow in Renaissance. Again starting at the base of the lash and blending upward. Also lightly apply under the bottom lashline (keep the eyes rounded).

With your finger press and swirl into Jouer’s Longwear Mousse Eyeshadow in Dusk in order to get a decent amount onto your finger. Gently tap Dusk in the center of your upper lid. This will give depth and contrast to the look. You can also lightly dab under the bottom lashline to give more luminosity.

Lastly apply 2 coats of Jouer’s Everyday Effortless Mascara in Noir. Starting at the base, wiggle the wand back and for as you brush upward. Make sure to brush your outer corner eyelashes outwards and not upwards. This will give the illusion that your lashes are longer.
