Invisible Bead Extensions®

Like many of the most transformative innovations in beauty, Invisible Bead Extensions® was born not from ambition, but from necessity. Frustrated by the limitations of traditional methods—tension at the scalp, excessive shedding, and a lack of meaningful education—its founder set out to quietly rewrite the narrative from behind the chair. What began as a deeply personal pursuit to give clients extensions that felt as effortless as they looked soon evolved into something far greater. With a focus on scalp integrity, seamless wear, and true invisibility, the IBE® method emerged as both a technical breakthrough and a new standard of luxury. Modeliste sat down with IBE® founder McKenzie Turley to uncover the story behind the innovation—how a solution-driven mindset transformed into a global movement, redefining not only how extensions look and feel, but how women experience their hair altogether.
What inspired you to start Invisible Bead Extensions®, and how did your vision evolve?
Invisible Bead Extensions® started from a frustration I experienced myself behind the chair. While offering traditional beaded rows and hand-tied installs, I kept seeing the same problems: tension, excessive shedding, and a lack of educators who could not only answer my questions but were even willing to have the conversation. My clients loved the length but hated how it felt. These methods were never designed with true scalp integrity or invisibility in mind. I did not set out to build a brand—I set out to solve a problem my own clients were experiencing and give them the extensions they deserved: healthy and undetectable. When I developed the IBE® method, it was about creating the most natural-looking, tension-free, scalp-safe extension install possible. When clients began reacting to it differently and stylists started asking how to learn it, I realized this was bigger than a service. The vision evolved from a better install method to a patented system, and ultimately into a full ecosystem where stylists can learn, shop, and build careers. Today, IBE® is not just a method—it is protected intellectual property, a global education platform, and a professional hair extension supply brand that supports stylists at every level.
How does IBE® differ from traditional extensions, and what makes them “invisible”?
The invisibility is both structural and cosmetic. Traditional beaded row methods stack beads and wefts in ways that create bulk and tension. Stylists often compensate with more hair, more sewing, or tighter tension. IBE® re-engineered the entire foundation. The patented IBE® method fully hides the beads, balances tension evenly across the row, eliminates stress at the scalp, and creates a flatter, more seamless foundation—securely allowing clients to go anywhere from 8–12 weeks between reinstalls. The invisibility and flexibility come from the architecture of the install itself.
How do you ensure IBE® delivers a seamless, natural look?
It starts with education. You cannot separate the product from the method, which is why IBE® has always been education-first. We certify stylists in placement, tension balance, customization, color blending, and cutting. On the product side, shopIBE® hair is engineered specifically for the method. We are a texture-first brand that prioritizes matching the client’s natural texture to the extensions for a seamless blend. Offering two straight textures, as well as wavy and curly options, allows for complete customization. We also offer multiple lengths, ranging from 14 inches to 28 inches. Our colors are dimension-focused, designed to create internal depth, and our weft construction is engineered to sit flat within an IBE® foundation. Seamless, natural results do not happen by accident—they are thoughtfully curated through placement, color theory, layering, and texture matching.
How does IBE® stay ahead of trends while remaining timeless?
We innovate with structure and strategy—not the latest TikTok trend. Trends will always shift, but what never changes is a client wanting her hair to feel like her, a stylist needing predictable, healthy results, and a foundation that grows out beautifully without compromise. We constantly study data—client and stylist feedback, retention metrics, return visits, and true wearability over eight to ten weeks—so our decisions are grounded in performance, not noise. At the same time, we refine our color launches, texture offerings, and education to reflect what women are actually wearing today. The standard is always wearable luxury: never costume hair, never overdone glam, but real life, elevated.

How does IBE® prioritize hair health?
Hair health was the original reason the method was created, and it remains the foundation of everything we do. IBE® prioritizes tension balance, scalp protection, and actively works to destigmatize the narrative that extensions cause hair loss. Our goal is to support and restore natural hair growth so the integrity of the client’s hair is never compromised. Beyond the structure of the install, we educate stylists extensively on maintenance timelines, thorough consultations, density matching, safe customization techniques, and intentional aftercare. For us, healthy hair is not a marketing angle—it is a design principle built into the architecture of the method.
A memorable client reaction?
The moments that stand out are not the red carpets or the spotlight—although we do have incredibly prominent women around the world wearing IBE®… but my lips are sealed. The most memorable moments are the quiet, personal ones: when a client runs her hands through her hair and says, “It doesn’t feel like extensions,” when she pulls it into a ponytail and cannot find the row, or when she returns eight weeks later and her natural hair is thriving. Influencers and celebrities may amplify the brand, but the true IBE® experience lives in that subtle moment of relief—when a woman realizes she no longer has to choose between having the hair of her dreams and healthy, comfortable extensions.
How does IBE® approach sustainability?
Sustainability in extensions requires responsibility at every level of sourcing and production. We focus on long-wear quality so clients are not constantly replacing hair, gradual transitions when improving collections rather than wasteful overhauls, and tight inventory control to prevent overproduction. Our professional-only distribution model reduces misuse and excess returns, while ongoing packaging refinement improves efficiency as we scale. Ultimately, the most sustainable product in extensions is one that lasts, performs consistently, and supports both the stylist and the client long-term.
Advice for someone new to extensions?
For clients: Choose your stylist, not just the hair. Extensions are never one-size-fits-all, which is why consultation, placement, and tension matter deeply. If you are trying IBE® for the first time, be honest about your lifestyle, follow recommended maintenance timelines, invest in proper aftercare, and trust your stylist’s process. When installed correctly, extensions should feel fully integrated into your identity—never like an accessory you are constantly aware of. Your hair, but elevated. For stylists: Choose your education carefully. Extension education should not just teach a method—it should teach a new way of thinking. It should reframe how you approach tension, scalp health, density matching, customization, and long-term grow-out. At IBE®, we believe true mastery starts with understanding structure first, then layering in artistry. Learn why the foundation works, not just how to replicate it. Slow down in consultations, be honest about what a client’s natural hair can safely support, and commit to maintenance standards that protect integrity over time. When your education shifts your thinking, your installs become more predictable, your results more seamless, and your clients more loyal.
How has IBE® become more than hair?
IBE® has become more than hair because hair changes posture. When a woman feels like her hair reflects how she sees herself, she stands differently, speaks differently, and shows up with a level of confidence that impacts every aspect of her life. What started as a method has evolved into an ecosystem designed to support that transformation. Through Learn, we educate and certify stylists in a patented structure that protects hair health while elevating artistry and business knowledge. Through Shop, we provide professional-grade hair and tools engineered specifically for the method. Through Wear, we connect clients to certified stylists via the Stylist Locator—closing the loop between education, product, and experience. This ecosystem makes IBE® more than an install. It is a career pathway, a community grounded in mentorship, and a professional standard that is reshaping the industry. It is not about adding more hair—it is about creating alignment between education and execution, product and performance, stylist growth and client confidence.
What is next for IBE®?
What’s next for IBE® is fully ecosystem-driven growth. Expect continued innovation in weft construction and product engineering, expanded professional distribution partnerships, deeper loyalty integration through shopPERKS, and enhanced stylist discovery through the Stylist Locator. We are layering more business education into our technical training, integrating smarter technology into the app experience, and pursuing strategic collaborations within the professional beauty space that align with our standards. As we scale, we will continue to fiercely protect our intellectual property while expanding opportunities for stylists globally. The mission remains unchanged: protect the method, elevate the stylist, and deliver the most natural, healthy extension experience in the industry.
