The Art of Intentional Dressing: A Guide for Showing up in Style for The Devil Wears Prada 2
Written by Nivedha Rao

The Devil Wears Prada captures the entire fashion industry as a whole. Since the release of the original film 20 years ago, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to debut on May 1st, with fans of the original movie anticipating seeing Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs and Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly again on the big screens.
In honor of the sequel, the cast came together and traveled around the world for their global press tour from Mexico City, Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, New York, and London. Though what stood out the most was the looks that graced the carpet. Both Hathaway and Streep were strategic in the way they dressed, following the art of dressing intentionally. From taking inspiration from the original film and the Y2K era, they both brought back the excitement for dressing up to the movies again, with fans dressing up in style as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs.
In each press stop, it is quite evident that both Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep were taking inspiration from the iconic red heel, as seen on the book’s cover, with red monochrome looks making an appearance on the carpet. Both also seem to lean heavily into black, white, blue, and sharp silhouettes.
Meryl Streep is driven by power dressing with tailoring, blazers, and capes that are bold, dramatic, and commanding, resonating with her character’s power-driven nature. On the other hand, Anne Hathaway leans towards dressing in structured silhouettes with corsets, architectural cutouts, and clean lines that are very form-fitting, from gowns to jackets to a blouse to pencil skirts and pants, highlighting her character's evolution as the new Features Editor at Runway.
Though both Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are dressing for the red carpet, it doesn’t mean we can’t take inspiration from them and dress intentionally to watch them on the big screens. Here is a breakdown of their red carpet looks and how you can recreate them.
