In this exclusive Modeliste interview, Brianne Howey invites us into her world with warmth, honesty, and the kind of perspective that only comes from living fully—both on and off screen. Best known for her fierce and layered portrayal of Georgia in Ginny & Georgia, Brianne opens up about the transformative journey of motherhood, the lessons learned through her evolving career, and the quiet, grounding rituals—like morning cuddles with her dog and a favorite cup of coffee—that bring her peace amidst the whirlwind. It’s a heartfelt glimpse into the life of a woman who’s embracing growth, purpose, and authenticity at every turn.
What’s the first thing that made you smile today?
My dog, Bodie, cuddling me in bed first thing in the morning. It’s the only time of day he’s calm.
How do you typically start your mornings?
Wishing I could sleep a little more! Then coffee, getting my daughter up, taking the dog out, and moving our bodies a little. Breakfast all around and then off to the races!
What’s your go-to coffee or tea order?
I love my Nespresso and use it every morning. I even keep one in my trailer. The thought of coffee with a lot of creamer gets me out of bed—especially during those early morning call times.
What’s one dish you make really well?
I’m by no means a chef, but I’m happy to report my daughter loves my scrambled eggs. I also love making a kale sausage rigatoni pasta. Hearty and warm.
What’s the last show you binge-watched?
Apple Cider Vinegar on Netflix. When we were on the press tour for Kinda Pregnant, the girls in the cast all watched it together—we couldn’t get enough. We need Season 2!
What’s your favorite vacation destination you’ve been to?
Portugal was a dream trip. The architecture, the weather, the tile! I lived off of custard tarts and green wine, and I still daydream about the quaint small towns. I’m dying to go back.
What are three things on your bucket list?
1. My stepmom is Vietnamese, and we’ve made it a life goal to experience Vietnam together one day.
2. Be in a Broadway play. I loved theater in high school and college, but I’ve never professionally done a play.
3. Learn to actually meditate.
What’s your favorite way to unplug and recharge?
There’s nothing more magical to me than a sound bath. It’s my favorite way to truly escape. It’s both mentally and physically rewarding.
How do you define success?
Success to me is showing personal growth—whether it’s mental, emotional, or physical. Success is a state of mind.
What’s a personal goal you’re working on this year?
To not compare myself to anyone else—or even to past versions of myself. I’m trying to remember that we’re all on our own journeys for our own reasons.
What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m not Southern.
What’s your dream role you haven’t played yet?
Harper in Angels in America. Betty Draper in Mad Men. Tracy Flick in Election.
If you had the chance to star alongside anyone, who would you choose?
Julia Roberts. What I would give!
What was the moment you knew you wanted to be an actress?
Working on my first student film in college. It was the most creative, collaborative experience, and it opened my eyes to what being an actor really looked like. I fell in love with the whole process.
What was your first acting job?
90210! (The reboot, that is.) I went in for “Girl in Green” and ended up booking a named role—“Stacy.” I was a character at a high school auction bidding on a date with one of the main characters. I’ll never forget it!
What’s the biggest lesson acting has taught you?
I’ve learned so much about who I am—and who I’m not—by playing so many different types of characters. It’s pushed me to grow, take risks, and see where my own strengths and weaknesses lie.
What’s the most fulfilling part of being an actor?
I’m a big feelings person. Acting has always been the best outlet for me to feel, process, and express. A good cathartic scene can feel like therapy.
What draws you to a character when you read a script?
I like discovering how to bring out the humanity in characters who are less than perfect, who are in their own way, or who have tension and conflict within their arc.
What's a story you’d love to tell one day—on screen or behind the scenes?
The story of Norma McCorvey, also known as “Jane Roe.” She was the plaintiff in the 1973 Roe v. Wade case. Her story is incredibly unique and almost unbelievable.
What’s your go-to everyday style?
I’d say I’m a minimalist. I want to feel comfortable but look my best. I’m always drawn to timeless, classic, and effortless style.
Who’s your ultimate style icon?
Katharine Hepburn. Feminine and practical. Nothing makes more sense to me than a wide-leg trouser.
What’s your most-loved fashion item in your closet?
I love my Marni purse. It’s black with a green tortoiseshell handle. Crossbody, great size, matches everything. She’s perfect.
Favorite red carpet moment?
The Kinda Pregnant premiere. I had finished the photo portion of the carpet and moved to the interview section—only to discover one of the interviewers was a friend from college! It was the best surprise. Felt very kismet.
What’s your signature fragrance?
Jo Malone Grapefruit Cologne. It’s clean and bright—for both day and night. I’m always going back for more.
What’s your holy grail skincare product?
I love the Clarins beauty product line as a whole. My favorites are the Total Eye Lift, V-Facial Intensive Wrap Depuffing Face Mask, and the Cryo-Flash Mask—Pore Refining + Firming Gel-Cream. They serve and deliver.
What’s one beauty rule you always follow?
Drink water. Lots of water.
What’s one beauty trend you’re loving right now?
Eight hours of sleep!
What’s your favorite thing about playing Georgia in Ginny & Georgia?
Georgia is the quickest character I’ve ever played—mentally, emotionally, physically. She’s fast. She’s fun to try to keep up with.
What was your first impression when reading the Ginny & Georgia script?
“Is this woman serious?! She just punched a kid. What’s wrong with her?” And then I knew I had to throw my hat in the ring.
What do you think is Georgia’s most redeeming quality?
Her love for her children will always be Georgia’s North Star. We see her most genuine and authentic self when she’s with her kids and putting them first.
What part of Georgia’s story do you connect with most?
I grew up with a young single mom. I watched her hustle to provide for us. She wasn’t perfect, but she showed me how to love fiercely. For that, I’ll always admire her—and that’s also what I admire about Georgia.
How similar are you to Georgia in real life?
Not so much! Georgia is a lot more comfortable taking up space and constantly controlling everyone and everything around her. I try to go with the flow a little more. Try being the key word!
Having welcomed your daughter with your husband in 2023, what does motherhood represent for you and how has it changed you?
I didn’t know my heart could get bigger. So far, motherhood represents transformation. It’s a farewell to parts of you and a hello to others. Despite all the change, it also feels like a return to myself in a way.
How do you balance your career with your personal life?
To be honest, it’s not as balanced as I hoped. Some days my family gets more of me, and some days work does. I rely heavily on my community, and for that, I’m so grateful!
What’s one thing you wish you could tell your younger self?
Not to overpluck my eyebrows in 7th grade.
What’s one quality you admire most in others?
People who can fall asleep anywhere. How do they do that? I’m perpetually jealous.
What’s something you’re really proud of right now?
My daughter can now count to 12, and it makes me so proud—even though she leaves out numbers 4 through 7.
What’s next for Brianne Howey? Any upcoming projects you can share with us?
