The historic property opened in December 1936, and was purchased in 1967 by the Marriott Corporation. Prior to Marriott purchasing the property, J. Willard Marriott Sr., and his wife Alice, vacationed there every year with their family and were said to be so enchanted with Camelback Inn, decided to purchase the beloved property.
