Porto Corvo, Alentejo
www.montedabemposta.pt
The Hotel Monte da Bemposta is a self-described farm that has landed on the coast – but this is not just any coast – this is the Costa Alentejana, in Alentejo, the south-central region of Portugal considered a hidden gem for those in the know. Here you can find stunning beaches, rugged landscape, expansive plains, lush olive groves and rolling hills – as well as some of Portugal’s best wineries. Fun fact: the Alentejo region is known for its oak corks. We have Portugal to thank for the more than 16 billion corks used to seal our favorite wine bottles today. The region spans from the Tagus River (Tejo in Portuguese) down to the Algarve and East all the way to the Spanish border. The word Alentejo, means ‘beyond Tejo river’ in Portuguese – which is more than fitting for this wide open rustic fantasy.
A RANGE OF ACCOMMODATIONS
The layout of the hotel, dotted with freestanding villas, studios and apartments is that of a typical Alentejo farmhouse with whitewashed walls embroidered in a sky blue, burgundy doors and clay. Picturesque and private, each accommodation has its own balcony with excellent options for all visitors – from couples to families to larger groups. A range of studios and villas in all sizes meet all needs and comfort levels. All of them are just 600 meters away, a short walk, from the celebrated Ilha do Pessegueiro beach.
WHAT TO DO
Adventures await both at the hotel and as you set out to explore the region. The Alentejo coast is one of the best surfing spots in Portugal – an attraction for wave riders and beach lovers.
As surfing is a sport that Bemposta cherishes, the hotel offers a vast array of surf lessons for all experience levels. Back on land, the region is known for its lush greenery and scenic treks, right in the heart of Rota Vicentina, putting hiking high on the list of things to do with trails for all levels. Biking and horseback riding are also popular activities with horseback riding by the sea over the dunes considered one of the best ways to take in this impressive landscape.
Monte da Bemposta also has a majestic swimming pool and two padel courts for fun-filled activities at the resort.. Animal lovers and those with children will also be delighted to meet the animals that live on this pet-friendly property including horses, donkeys, llamas and alpacas. DINING WITH A RUSTIC FLAIR
The concept of farm to table has never been more appropriate. The hotel restaurant takes its inspiration straight from nature with a menu organized according to product seasonality and the best that local markets have to offer. In keeping with the feel-at-home atmosphere, the cuisine is traditional and all about healthful comfort food. Flavors harmonize seamlessly with the landscape and dining takes place in a spacious raw designed dining space or anywhere you wish to be – poolside as well as under the hotel’s covered communal terrace with a view of the sea.
