Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Once a remote sleepy fishing village at the farthest tip of Nicoya Peninsula on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, Santa Teresa has become an increasingly popular surf, wellness, and tourist destination. Still considered remote with airports a few hours away, reached now on a recently paved road, Santa Teresa is picturesquely framed by the Cabo Blanco Natural Rainforest Wildlife Reserve and endless deep blue ocean. A haven for surfers both novice and with challenging Pacific wave action, guests are rewarded with sundrenched beaches, new resorts and yoga retreats, a community paused in daily reverence to vibrant sunsets, and a rise in eateries mastering fresh sourced cuisine from nearby farms and cattle ranches along with the bounty of local fishermen. Santa Teresa is a special discovery.
The Nicoya Peninsula is one of just five UNESCO Blue Zones in the world revered for its longevity and happiness. Among its treasures, Hotel Nantipa – A Tico Beach Experience. This award-winning perfect luxury boutique retreat illuminates the Costa Rican Pura Vida experience with its sophisticated, yet casual design placed serenely within a magical natural setting alive with wonder. Encompassing the expanse of startling blue skies and cobalt blue waters, ‘Nantipa’ is the native Nicoya Chorotegan word for blue, imaging a spiritual connection uniting an ancient past and exciting present and the natural elements defining this remarkable destination.
Nestled in a nature-scape of lush rainforest flora clustered around a stunning swimming pool and just steps from the beach, the 19 luxurious Ninta garden and beachfront bungalows and Nanku suites, deliver sophisticated modern design and comfort throughout. The Ninta bungalows offer plunge pools, spacious terraces and balconies with lounges and hammocks, indoor and outdoor showers, and first-class amenities. The Ninta bungalows offer spacious romantic retreats for couples, while the Nanku suites are perfectly suited for families or groups of friends. Stunning oceanfront or garden views are magnified by floor to ceiling glass doors opening to a uniquely Nantipa experience. Showcased in the welcoming ambience of an exceptional retreat, Nantipa is at once an intimate romantic beach hideaway, a family friendly getaway, and a gateway to adventure with first class surfing, rainforest explorations to Montezuma waterfall and several nature reserves, and deep-sea fishing with local experts.
Wellness enthusiasts will enjoy the newly opened Numú Wellness Center, inviting guests on a holistic healing journey in an open-air space within the gardens. Inspired by the local environment, the spa integrates eco-friendly practices and locally made ingredients for the custom treatments. A full range of wellness programs are available including spa treatments and yoga classes, all designed to enhance tranquility.
Nantipa presents distinctive first-class dining at the unique beachfront Manzu restaurant designed in recognition of the native huts of the Chorotegan culture which once dotted these shores. Manzu features an open kitchen where traditional Tico recipes are reinvigorated with freshly sourced local ingredients and recipes passed through generations. Specialties of local seafood prepared traditionally join Tico cuisine favorites featuring Gallo Pinto (rice and black beans) for breakfast and seasonal vegetables, Casados, Arroz con Camarones, Carne Asada, and a superb seafood casserole. The menu is a Modeliste favorite including the signature Manzu cocktails designed by the resident mixologist creatively incorporating local fruits and flavors.
Winner of Travel Advisor’s 2021 Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Award and recognized as World Travel Award’s Leading Costa Rica Hotel 2021, Nantipa exemplifies all the attributes of boutique luxury within an enchanting natural setting where romance and adventure converge in the perfect Tico Beach Experience.
