Hair extensions are the perfect solution for those who want to lengthen and add volume to their current hair style.  Many celebrities, including Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Blake Lively are well acquainted with them and have relied on extensions to quickly change-up and play with their looks for years.  However, with so many extension companies to choose from and types of extensions, hair quality, it is a difficult task to find the ultimate brand which provides a natural look, is easy to look after, and doesn’t damage your real locks. With this in mind, we sent our Beauty Editor to discuss at length one of the most sought after extension brands, Bohyme®, to get the inside scoop on everything you need to know about extensions.

What makes your extension line so unique?
For over four decades, Bohyme® has set the standard for premium, ethically sourced, human hair. We use time-honored artisanal principals and remain completely transparent about where and how our hair is sourced.
Our parent company, Fashion World, is responsible for revolutionizing the industry when we began creating custom human hair extensions and originated the term Remi®—trademarking more than a name, we fundamentally transformed the hair industry and set the standard for preserving hair cuticles.  Today, we continue to be a leader in the industry by spearheading relationships with hair professionals. We have a strong network of stylists with which we gain direct insights to design products our styling community actually wants and needs.

What inspired the creation of your line?
The name Bohyme® takes its inspiration from the word Bohemian; designed to be a wildly different, perennial hair brand that would remain iconic and yet challenge conventional beauty.  At the root (literally), Bohyme has always been a pioneer for inclusion. We champion that age, gender, color, size and beliefs should never stand in the way of beautiful self-expression.  We remain at the pulse of what stylists desire to evolve their craft; carrying the longest lengths and the best quality in the biz since day one. We continue to hold true to our basic principles of imagining the new and the next and designing hair for the truly imaginative.

What different types of extensions do you offer?
We offer four distinct collections:

Bohyme® Essential Collection is designed for the end user and hairdresser desiring quick hair installations. This brand is geared towards the DIYer seeking quick, removable extensions without the time commitment. Products in this brand offering include Bohyme Halos, Bohyme Clip-Ins, Bohyme Tape-Ins and Bohyme Adhesive Release to safely remove tape-in extensions.

Birth Remi® offers thicker, unprocessed (virgin) machine-tied bundles. Birth Remi hair is collected at the individual donor level and is free from harsh depigmentation chemicals such as bleach and ammonia. Our unprocessed, virgin hair allows each bundle to maintain its integrity making the possibilities endless when it comes to styling, dying, applying heat and adding wild colors.

Bohyme® Classic Collection offers the most extensive array of product types and styles including Machine-Tied Wefts, Hand-Tied Wefts, I-Tips, Closures, Top Pieces and Bundles.

Bohyme® Luxe offers our highest quality 100% Remi® Human Hair consisting of Hand-Tied Wefts, Machine-Tied, Seamless Weft, Closures, and Lace Front Wigs dedicated solely to the professional stylist. Bohyme Luxe hair undergoes extra quality assurance and is made with higher-grade raw materials and better quality hair.

What are the most important factors in determining what type of extension is best for your hair type?
Your personal needs and lifestyle really dictate what extension is best for you. Luckily we provide many varying types of hair to suit all hair textures, lengths, attachment preferences. A client needs to determine if they are looking for a quicker (more temporary) installation, or a long term solution. Other factors to consider include desired volume and maintenance preferences.

Are there any basic rules to know or to look for when purchasing extensions?
 For the best quality hair, we recommend using only real hair extensions—versus synthetic hair—and solely working with a professional line that caters to certified stylists and professionals. In addition, it is also important to work with a company that remains ahead of the curve to address hair issues and continually works to improve quality and application methodology.

What advice do you have in caring for your extensions?
We highly recommend following our daily protocol for maintaining the healthy lifespan of your Bohyme® extensions:

• Gently untangle your extensions using a loop brush or a medium hard bristle brush. It is important to brush your hair in the morning, as needed throughout the day, and most importantly before going to bed. Always brush your hair in sections. Starting at the ends and working upwards toward the scalp.
• At bedtime, long hair extensions should be braided into one or two big loose braids to prevent tangling, damage to the attachment, and traction of your own hair where the extensions are attached.
• We recommend using a silk or satin pillowcase to reduce damage, breakage and maintain moisture.

Furthermore, we highlight extensive tips for washing and styling our Bohyme hair, along with answering pressing questions on our website and blog features. We cover hot topics such as, “How often should I shampoo and condition my extensions?” (Hint: It is recommended to shampoo your hair two to three times a week ideally at daytime). And other topics including: “Why do I need to shampoo routinely?”, “Can I use dry shampoo?”, and “What products should I avoid?”

What do you see as the hottest hairstyle trends for 2019?
We don’t see the trend and demand for extremely long hair, for example, ending any time soon so we envision 2019 will continue to usher in the trend of runway to real-way. Our customers want to emulate the long looks of their favorite celebrities and musicians so long bone-straight, silky straight styles (like our Bohyme® Luxe Silky Straight Hand-Tied) will continue to be in demand! That said, we really love the fast-paced hair and beauty industry and enjoy keeping up with the latest trends. We have worked very hard to be able to quickly implement new launches and improvements. We house a wide assortment of styles to always stay on trend and innovate for our beloved industry.

Celebrity sightings or fans of the line?
Although we cannot reveal who specifically wears our hair, we do supply celebrity stylists with Bohyme® hair and have sent many of our extensions to the Game of Thrones set—so you can bet some of those big, bold braids are Bohyme. In addition, Bohyme has been featured on celebrity sites such as Lauren Conrad, Cameron Diaz’s The Body Book and lifestyle sites such as Real Simple.
