Atop the Eiffel Tower gathered in shivery gentle mist, we awaited a benevolent glimpse of Lady Sun’s farewell. She had teased Paris all day from behind her dense cloud cloak, obscured by a spectrum of grays. Sparingly, she offered slivers of golden rays peeking through shy cloud puffs, briefly gifting the city with a faint misty rainbow before it was swallowed in Paris gray. At day’s end, the hopeful gathering felt almost reverent at the promise of last light. At once, we drew in a collective breath as the clouds gathered at the horizon parted slightly granting us a moment of sun’s last glow, leaving fluttery trails of smoky gold, peach and pink to silently slip away into a photo memory. The magic of Paris is forever, its beauty revealed in art and nature, monuments and moments. As we descend on the Tower elevator, the City of Lights awakens in breathtaking splendor.

We love Paris day and night, when it drizzles or sizzles as the ode proclaims. Every visit is memorable, alive with discovery. Our most recent is the Chess Hotel in the heart of the Opera de Paris area, the prestigious 9th arrondissement where 19th Century architecture meets 21st Century trends on the right bank of the Seine. The Chess Hotel claims a prime location near Palais Garnier, home of the Opera, Paris stock exchange, and premier shopping on Boulevard Haussmann where the largest department stores, Galleries Lafayette and Printemps, and Grand Magasins display Parisian fashions for an international audience under stunning glass domes. Their rooftop terraces offer spectacular views from Sacre de Coeur to the Eiffel Tower while enjoying cocktails, coffees, and upscale dining. The 9th is vibrant home to gourmet restaurants, hip and trendy bars and eateries of South Pigalle, SoPi, a blossoming of galleries, intimate art museums, and easy access to transportation.

The Chess Hotel is fabulously unique creating a harmonious compatibility of artsy chic and contemporary aesthetic within historic charm. The result is welcoming and whimsical, original and pleasurable. A sophisticated elegance beginning in the lobby is warmed by a chess game set by a glowing fire, a glass of Champagne or wine from the hotel’s curated collection, Da Rosa delicious savory snacks. The elite design of Gilles and Boissier features only high quality throughout, defining a calming retreat from the often exhausting pace of sightseeing. Extending to the chic elegance of the guest rooms and suites, Carrara marble meets rich woods, custom fabrics and textures of soft linen and sleek satin, and a finessed showcasing of art and artistic detailing throughout. The decor is distinctly fashionable, rooms are tailored for discerning travelers with comforts and amenities, designer headboards, plush beds, mattresses and pillows, modern baths with heated towel rack, hairdryer, toiletries, robes and slippers, free WiFi, USB, air conditioning, flatscreen TV with international channels, minibar and laptop sized safe.

Partnering with the sports club, L’Usine, guests of The Chess Hotel may enjoy the classes and facilities including sauna and steam room at a special exclusive rate. Spa services may be enjoyed at nearby Le Roch Hotel and Spa with special access to treatments, swimming pool, and hammam easily booked through The Chess Hotel concierge.
